Sibusiso Tshona, affectionately known as Suup Zulu, is a young hip-hop artist and producer who believes that there are many stories to be told within the community of Alexandra, and aims to tell them through his music.

Tshona, who was raised in Alexandra, became involved in music in 2010, and is inspired by his environmental surroundings and King Shaka Zulu.

The 22-year-old believes that his music tells of a rich heritage that often comes from classical stories that are usually told by elders.

Tshona said he honoured his heroes through his music and used it as a platform to define himself and share his life experiences.

“We all know that the choices we make today will have a huge impact on our tomorrow, just like actions have consequences, so do our choices,” said Tshona.

Tshona’s first single, Uyezwa, is a song that he said defined and celebrated himself as an individual. The single received positive feedback from his followers.

Tshona said, “It was a huge achievement for me, I have always looked up to Okmalumkoolkat, to be able to perform with him has inspired me. I now believe that I can achieve my dreams.”

Tshona has faced many challenges that have tested his hunger to pursue his music dream, such as financial difficulties and having access to the relevant equipment to produce music.

He believes one can achieve anything as long as one focuses on the goals regardless of the obstacles one comes up against in life.

“We can argue that talent can take you places, but only if you are willing to put in the effort of making it possible,” he said.

The rapper has performed in Maboneng, Braamfontein and Baseline. Tshona said he was in talks with Okmalumkoolkat for a possible collaboration, and hoped that this could be the beginning of great things to come.
