Entertainers for Carling Cup named

JOBURG - The country’s champion musicians will square up as part of the entertainment line up for the coming football showdown between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

The country’s champion musicians will square up as part of the entertainment line-up for the upcoming football showdown between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates on 1 August.

Carling Black Label Cup has launched a partnership with champion musicians DJ Tira and Oskido to entertain the multitudes that will descend on the iconic FNB Stadium on the day.

Music and sports continue to play an integral part in socio-economic development, and when the opportunity came for the Carling Black Label to choose a partner to entertain fans, musicians became the obvious choice.

The champion beer had to find the champion musicians – those who have empowered others in the music industry and not only been champion musicians but have groomed other champions.

The partner would need to be a legend who has moved the community though their success story with music which has been created with such authenticity that it has a following and fans of all classes.

“We had to examine the makings of a true legend and champion, and after careful scrutiny, DJ Tira and Oskido fit the bill,” said Nomndeni Mdakhi of the organisers of the match day concert.

They will meet for a one-on-one battle at three of the hottest spots in Soweto on 24 July under Own Soweto, a concept powered by Carling Black Label.

Oskido is an avid Orlando Pirates fan and is synonymous with many success stories including DJ Tira’s. He has attained legendary status through a consistent success thread that finds its roots at the discovery of the ever-popular Boom Shaka foursome. More than 20 years later and with another generation of musicians having come up, Oskido still holds his own. He is revered for his ability to adapt and redefine his music over the times. His record label houses some of the hottest acts, not only in this country but Africa. He is undoubtedly a champion who continues to inspire and empower young talent.

DJ Tira, a committed Kaizer Chiefs fan, is also known as Makoya Bearings or Tira Khathi; and is the owner of the hit-making Durban-based independent record label, Afrotainment. He also performs as DJ Tira locally and internationally; and has pioneered the Fact Durban Rocks brand which takes place on the first Saturday of July and New Year’s Eve every year.
