Quiz4Moola competition pays out big

JOBURG - Although the overall winner of a million rand in the Quiz4Moola competition hosted by MTN lives in Durban, a 34-year-old man from Senaone, Soweto, is R300 000 richer.

Gordon Gcwabaza emerged as the runner-up in the general knowledge competition on the MTN Quiz4Moola platform, which had players on their cellphones playing for weeks. The competition adjudicators said Gcwabaza beat an Alex player by a single point to come in second place. Although the Alex player came in third, no monetary prize was given.

Gcwabaza, who works in Johannesburg CBD, said although he was delighted about his win, he still had no plans as yet on how he would spend the money.

“I am going to sleep over it a bit,” enthused the unmarried father of a 13-year-old Grade 8 pupil of Azaro High School.

Grand prize winner of a million rand, Andre Bernard (32) said he would fork out a sizable amount as a donation to his church and would buy himself a flat.

“I will then use part of it to help my parents pay off their bond on the family home and then invest whatever is left,” said the single man with no kids, who did not want his picture taken.
