Contemplating change with Tim Hendricks

He started off in a band called Night Garden Café, and has worked and continues to work with a number of skilled musicians, and admits that the turnaround on his music is quite high, hence the name The Tim Hendricks Project. So it’s safe to say that the album is a collaboration of sorts.

According to Hendricks, the album, Contemplating Change, has been in the works for a while.

“I think about these things way before they happen. I knew I was calling it Contemplating Change for about five years, and some of the songs on this album I’ve had for over 10 years. I was selfish with them,” he said.

A producer on the album, Sam Mahlalela said, “It took a very different direction from where it initially started.

“I joined it at a later stage, I think I could say half of it was already finished. When Tim came back and was ready to record, the direction had shifted and it was more toned down, mellow, with a very intimate acoustic vibe. It was very calm and had grown, so to speak.”

Expect to hear a magic mixture of lounge, salsa and jazz being led by Hendricks’ sublime acoustic guitar playing.

And don’t be surprised if you feel like the lyrics are aimed at you … that’s Hendricks’ super power. “My songs come from experiences, not my own but other people’s. And emotions that I can’t seem to get out properly.”

Christina Rodokanakis, a singer from the band, Groove Battery, also lends her melodic voice to the album, and said once she’d heard Hendricks play, she knew it was something she wanted to do. “Since we met, we’ve always had a nice bond. When he played something or I came up with an idea, we respected each other.”
