Local singer headed on up

JOBURG – Things seem to be looking up for local music star Daniel Baron.

His latest collaborative single with the Afrikaans pop group ADAM has just been released and he’s set to perform at a new concert called Born to Perform.

He wanted to be a musician since he was the tender age of six. “I discovered an old videotape of a U2 concert. I used to watch it daily and learn the words, as well as play drums along to the concert on pots and pans that I found in the kitchen,” he said.

“Don’t let the movies fool you … it’s not all glitz and glam. I’ve been told by one or two industry executives and professionals that I am not good enough and that the music industry may not be the right place for me. It is hard when you get told that you should give up on your dreams, but I think it made me even more determined in the end.”

And his determination certainly appears to have paid off. His new collaborative single is making waves on the radio – it entered the iTunes Top 10 – and Baron is set to light up the stage at Born to Perform alongside local music acts like Graeme Watkins, Cito and Nathan Ro as they perform alongside the young, up-and-coming talented children of South Africa.

“I’m inspired by everything around me. I love writing music and then playing it live to people that want to hear it. It’s a gift to be able to share my music with the world.”

And all his fans will agree.
