SAMAs fast approaching

JOBURG - WITH the South African Music Awards (Samas) fast approaching, it's time to find out all you need to know about how it will be going down this year.

Sama XXI, which is to be held at the Sun City Superbowl, will celebrate its 21st anniversary, and so the show on 7 April promises to be something never seen at these awards before.

The XXI campaign has seen social media users getting involved by posting photos of themselves when they, too, came of age, using #XXI.

The Samas stand alone, with no other South African music ceremony reaching its heights; and XXI represents a Legacy to Future.

There has been much excitement regarding the nominees of the various categories, with fan favourites K.O. and Casper Nyovest bagging five nominations each; with Beatenberg following close on their heels with four nominations.

There are two special awards up for grabs: International Achievement Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award, with another highly coveted award of the night being for the Kia Record of the Year.

“The South African Music Awards turn 21 this year, a milestone that strikes a chord and resonates with us all,” said Mika Chauke, head of communications and stakeholder relations.

“The continuous year-on-year growth, support and popularity has contributed to the improvement in the quality of participants and overall industry growth. The momentum leading to up to Sama XXI is reflective of the high standards built over the years, and achievements of all nominees.”

Tickets went on sale at Computicket on 7 April.
