Connell cruises Into The Wild

JOBURG - SOUTH African-born musician, singer and songwriter, Connell Cruise, has taken his talent overseas with his sights set on total world music domination.

Cruise, who was born and bred in the beautiful suburb of Northcliff began his journey into music quite unexpectedly.

Now based in New York, Cruise studied law and psychology, and later furthered his studies in theology with the aspiration of pursuing an academic career.

It was only when he entered <ct:Italic>South African Idols<ct:> that he realised his initial career path was way off.

“I could play the piano [trained classically] and I sang every now and then, but by no means did anyone consider me a great singer, nor a great pianist,” said Cruise.

“I tried this Idols thing and ended up going to the top 14 – I forget what level I made it to, but I certainly didn’t win. It was an eye-opener and I realised I could actually do this as a career.”

Since his stint at Idols he has been composing music, and with six songs on his upcoming 12-track album already complete, his international EP is well on its way.

He is currently on his Into The Wild<ct:Italic> <ct:>tour around South Africa, after which he will jet back off to the states and complete his EP.

He let slip that there may be a tour he will be joining, as well as something interesting that could be in the making in Dubai and London.

“As long as they’re listening, I’ll keep making music.”

This star on the rise and is someone for you to keep your eye on.
