Emmanuel Pietersen dreams big

MIDRAND - Musician Emanuel Pietersen, who lives in Halfway Gardens, believes that artists need to create opportunities for themselves in the music industry.

Pietersen, who sings English and Afrikaans adult contemporary music with a country rock influence, said he had always loved music but it required hard work.

“Most people give up before they make it because they find it too hard, and I believe that if you have a dream and work hard for it, nothing can stop you from growing your music or brand,” he said.

Pietersen started out as an actor in 2008 and got his big break with Egoli, a popular TV series, and then he transitioned into music.

He explained, “I wanted to make music a career and finally made it happen in 2011. My first album Skadu’s van Verlange was released in 2013 with both English and Afrikaans songs.”

He wrote three songs on the album including This One, Kom Bietjie Nader and Skadu’s van Verlange, a song of which the chorus was written by his sister who died 21 years ago in a car accident.

Pietersen’s upcoming album, which is yet to be named, will include songs such as More than Friends, This time Baby and Tarentaal Rand.

“I released a single, Afrika Kersfees in December last year, which got a lot of airplay on numerous national and international radio stations. The new album will be released towards May.”

Angel Music Productions in Ventersdorp is producing the album which is funded by Pietersen’s label, Star Fusion Entertainment. Pietersen’s next show will be at Firkin in Centurion on 17 February.

He will also be performing free of charge at Crafters for Cansa Event at the military sports grounds in Pretoria on 20 February.
