ALEXANDRA - An Alex woman is staring in a local movie, Fortune, as the 'horrible sister-in-law who is a control freak and always wants things done her way.

Martha Mokhatshelwa of Phase One in Alexandra, stars in the movie, Fortune, as lead actress.

The movie aired on 13 October. She plays the role of a control freak sister-in-law who allows the wife of her late brother access to the late husband’s estate only if she marries her late husband’s younger brother. In this way, she hopes to keep the wealth of her brother within the family.

“I am not horrible in real life and I trust people will take me for what I am in the movie. I know the horrible roles people play in movies and they always come back to haunt them,” she said jokingly.

A married mother of three children and in her 40s, Mokhatshelwa, who has been in the acting industry for some time, with appearances in the popular e-TV soapie, Scandal, landed the leading lady role after she auditioned for eKasi Stories. Asked about how she ended up in the acting industry, Mokhatshelwa said; “I guess I got into the world of movies by accident,” she said.

“As a young person growing up under the apartheid era, I had always dreamt of being a policewoman after realising the authority my police brother commanded. I was driven by my propensity to eradicate crime and criminals from my community. But that was not to be,” she added.

“On the other hand, I am happy that fate did not lead me to my childhood ambitions as I am in love with what I do now. Acting is my second love, after my husband of course.”

Born in Mamelodi in Pretoria, Mokhatshelwa came to Alexandra 23 years ago when she married her husband, Aaron.
