ALEXANDRA - The Knorrox sponsored reality TV show 'kitchen queen' which captivated Sunday evening viewers for eleven weeks ended with the winner Hazel Khumalo from Soweto driving from the stage in a fully equipped R300000 worthy mobile kitchen.

THE Knorrox-sponsored reality TV show Kitchen Queen which captivated Sunday evening viewers for 11 weeks, has ended with the winner Hazel Khumalo from Soweto driving away in a fully-equipped mobile kitchen worth R300 000.

The show had six contestants from across the country. They were chosen by their communities for their culinary skills and outstanding and selfless contributions to causes such as supporting orphaned and vulnerable children and the elderly.

Audiences were captivated by their ability to resolve challenging tasks assigned to them by their mentors, and in the process the contestants also gained various personal skills for self-development and application in their various fields.

Khumalo clinched the big prize after being chosen by the other contestants and viewers, and won by a slight margin against another Khumalo, Nokhuthula from Daveyton. Prior to the announcement, the two Khumalos informed this paper that they had gained a lot of personal skills from the show.

Expressing her joy, Khumalo said, “ I am so excited and humbled, and this mobile catering van will change my family’s life. I now can be my own boss and help create employment in the community. I have learnt so much from the show and will be forever grateful for the experience.”

Knorrox’s brand manager Queen Mgobhozi said the show had been amazing, and celebrated everyday community heroines.

“We hope that many other women in the country have been inspired by the resilience and hard work of the queens throughout the show.”

Although no Alexandra resident took part, they still have a chance as the brand plans to empower 20 000 community caterers by 2020. This year the brand intends to spend R5 million to empower 1 500 caterers who will be expected to employ 7 500 other women and impact on 54 000 community members.
