Midas touch artist seeks partners

ALEXANDRA - The midas touch of a local artist is turning ceramic clay into master pieces which acclaimed artists can only dream of.

The midas touch of artist, Tiisetso Noko is turning ceramic clay into masterpieces which even acclaimed artists and art brands can only dream of producing.

His works may have a positive spin-off in helping Alexandra and other townships artists, as he and his partners have received support from the Department of Arts and Culture to develop their trade into a viable business venture which commits to also help others.

Noko (42), a self-employed artist has a higher diploma in applied art and design having specialised in fine and commercial art. After graduating he did commissioned artwork for private clients, and in 2001 founded the Artists for Africa group, now called Intu-Art in Midrand.

He has trained and supervised more than 20 artists and now works solo, producing unique pottery ornaments of human figures, animals and flowers sculptured onto- vases, teapots and other objects.

Noko’s passion for the arts drives him to always produce excellent work and to instil artistic skill in those he interacts with in the sector. “Each item I make is a once- off collector’s item, there are no look-alike pieces,” he said. “All of them are uniquely numbered to ensure that they are individual masterpieces.”

Noko said he and his colleagues want to engage with other artists to share experiences, conduct joint displays, train and assist other aspiring artists, and explore marketing strategies locally and internationally.

“Government support will assist us to develop and market art products, and to purchase a range of wares from others including baskets and jewellery,” he said.

Noko and his partners are currently working to secure an upmarket location for displays and sales.
