Germany trip beckons for talented Alex soccer star
ALEXANDRA – The most talented football star in the township will be chosen in July for a dream trip to Germany in August.
Three of Alexandra’s most talented young football players stand a chance of representing South Africa at the Allianz Junior Football Camp in Munich, Germany from 27 to 31 August.
Kabelo Seopa of Realogile High, Lebogang Dolo of Alexandra High and Tebatso Sekoaleng of Minerva High, who also plays for Highlands Park juniors, were chosen at the Allianz Football Tournament held at the Number 3 Square Ground in Alexandra.

Alex’s own football legend, Maimane Phiri, the Cradock Ave, Rosebank-headquartered Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty Africa (AGCS) head of marketing and communications, Lesiba Sethoga, and independent legal expert, Melvin Neale, selected the three players out of almost 50 from the six high schools. They will then decide on the ultimate winner in July following further assessments.
Realogile was crowned champions of the tournament following a 1–0 win over Alexandra High. Kwabhekilanga High, Eastbank High, and Pholosho Junior Secondary schools also took part in the tournament.
“The excitement and commitment from the players, coaches and teachers throughout the tournament showed their determination to reach their dreams and as Allianz, we are dedicated to enabling them to reach their goals,” said Thusang Mahlangu, CEO of AGCS Africa.
Phiri too was equally impressed with the boys’ display of exceptional football skills, tactical awareness and behaviour on and off the pitch. “It is rewarding to be part of the [Allianz Junior Football Camp] as it contributes to the development of football in South Africa. The footballers demonstrated teamwork, self-discipline and excellent football skills,” Phiri said.

The chosen Alex teenager to represent South Africa will join 57 others from 24 nations between the ages of 14 to 16 at the camp, which is now in its 10th year.
While there, they will meet FC Bayern Munich stars, be trained by youth coaches and participate in innovation and digital activities beyond football in a packed five-day programme, hosted by Allianz and FC Bayern.
