#ICYMI: No punishment for cheating Zenzeleni

ALEXANDRA – Zenzeleni Primary School will not be punished for its age-cheating scandal at the Gauteng finals of the Danone Nations Cup.

There will be no punitive measures taken against Zenzeleni Primary School for its age-cheating scandal in the Danone Nations Cup.

This was said by Mamikie Mosethe of the Alexandra Schools Sports Committee when asked if there was going to be any form of punishment for the school or those responsible in the light of the said forging of the players’ documents.

“The best we can do, as a committee, is to censor the school with the sole purpose of emphasising the damage such behaviour causes to all of us. It’s not just damaging to the school but to the entire community, as the kids went to the Danone Nations Cup as ambassadors not just of the school but of the entire community of Alex,” Mosethe said.

“Wherever we go today, people will not take us seriously. Even if we can win a major tournament after this, there will be rumblings as to what we might have done to win. We shall never genuinely and honestly win anything in future without people making reference to our propensity to cheat or believing that we have cheated.”

The Zenzeleni Primary School team made history by becoming the first Alex school to qualify for the Gauteng provincial finals of the Danone Nations Cup, which were played at the WJ Clements Stadium in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni on 17 June.

But after only one game, the school was disqualified from the tournament when organisers spotted untoward tampering with the documents of the team’s two players and called the technical staff to explain.

As the coach was absent, he was represented by a Dr Knak Primary School teacher, Moses Maloka and his colleague from MC Weiler Primary School, Thabiso Maretele.

Mosethe said she had appointed the pair to oversee the technical aspects of the team in the absence of the Zenzeleni coach.
