New king of Alex primary schools football crowned

ALEXANDRA - There is a new king of Alex primary schools football; and that is none other than new kid on the block, MC Weiler Primary School.

There is a new king of Alex primary schools football – and that is none other than new kid on the block, MC Weiler Primary School.

Weiler came from a 2–0 deficit to hand perennial powerhouse, Dr Knak Primary School a 3–2 drubbing in front of a capacity crowd of fellow pupils to claim the crown in the Discovery Alex Schools’ League final at the No 3 Square Grounds.

Knak had started the game well and made their intentions known as early as the first minute of play when captain Walter Mosesi, who plays for Royal Tigers in the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association league, connected a free kick with a header to score one of the most beautiful goals of the final.

It was not long before Knak went two up, with an own goal from Weiler’s Lefa Malevu who plays for Malandela Mighty Heroes. Malevu had headed the ball backwards to his keeper in an effort to allow him to handle it, but the keeper was not alert and the ball hit the back of the net.

At this stage, everybody except the Weiler coach, Sechaba Mothibeli, had written off Weiler and thought Knak was home and dry. Mothibeli kept on creeping onto the field to urge his youngsters to fight on.

With the calibre of players he has in hard-working captain Dineo Ntsimane of Real Madrid, Kabelo Seopa also of Real Madrid, Kabelo Puleng of Malandela Mighty Heroes and Malevu, Mothibeli knew a miracle was still possible.

And the miracle surely came when a calm and collected Ntsimane, who was all over the ground and in almost every tackle of the game, had his first goal-bound free kick parried over the bar by the Knak keeper.

Puleng immediately latched onto a loose ball in the box and made no mistake, and the half-time score was 1–2 in favour of Knak. Soon after resumption, Ntsimane, who led by example, took a free kick and slotted it into the back of the net to level the score at two-all.

As the flood gates opened, Weiler turned the tables upside down and put the final nail in Knak’s coffin with a brilliant goal from Seopa, who also scored the solitary goal in the final match of the group stages against Ikage.
