East Bank High School rugby team took the victory against KwaBhekilanga High School in the Vuka School Games final on July 19 at Marlboro Gardens Secondary School sports grounds.
The match was closely contested, with both teams showing impressive skills and determination. The first half saw both teams scoreless, with neither side able to breach the other’s defences.
However, the second half was a different story altogether. East Bank High player Khumo Mabe scored two tries and a penalty kick, giving his team the decisive victory.
Mabe showed exceptional speed, agility, and accurate kicking skills, enabled by his teammates who worked tirelessly to support him.
“The game was tough and challenging, but I am proud of my team’s performance, especially our defence because we ensured that KwaBhekilanga did not get a chance to score even a single goal,” Mabe said.
East Bank coach Khula Msuthwana said, “this was a challenging game for both teams… Today’s game reminds me of so many memories and shows that there is a talent in the township, and I don’t want it to end here. Our team victory will motivate us to continue striving for excellence, and the players will be encouraged to come to practice.”
