Run Alex Athletics Club made history at the 2024 edition of the Comrades Marathon with one of the club runners, Khutso Mogashoa, bringing home a silver medal.

The club’s coach, Godright Selema, said he was beaming with pride as he watched his runners take on the challenging 85,91km course.

“I was excited to see all our Run Alex runners who qualified to do Big C (the Comrades Marathon) lining up in our watermelon gear. It was incredible to see runners take on the course and push themselves to the limit. Seeing Khutso bringing home a silver medal was just the icing on the cake,” Selema said.

Selema said he is proud of his runners for their efforts and dedication even though two did not complete the race due to injuries.

“It’s not just about individual achievements, but also about representing the club and wearing our colours with pride. In addition to Khutso’s silver medal, the club earned an impressive haul of medals, bringing home 10 Bill Rowan medals, seven Robert Mtshali medals, nine bronze medals, and five Vic Clapham medals,” Selema said.

Selema expressed honour to have been part of the club’s team and said he can’t wait to see what they will achieve next
