Dream team wins the pride game against Rovers

Johannesburg Rovers Academy falls in the game of pride as Socca Dream hits five goals past keeper Teboho Sebelego at the Totalsports Alex SafeHub.

Socca Dream walloped Johannesburg Rovers Academy 5-1 in a ‘pride-only’ game of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association’s ANLFA Promotional League at the Totalsports Alex SafeHub on May 2.

Despite the huge win for the Dream side, the status quo for both teams remains the same. Before this game, Dream had 23 points from 23 games having only won six, drawn five, lost 11 and occupies the 11th spot on the log while Rovers played the same number of games, won five, drew two and lost 15 with 17 points in the bag and occupies 12th position.
Norwood Young Stars has accumulated 27 from 23 games and had a bye this weekend as it was supposed to play Stamina FC which has since been thrown out of the league for three walkovers.

The team below Rovers, Happy Fighters has 12 points from 23 games, though not fixtured this weekend but even if they were, a win would not have helped either. The bottom team is Western Boys with only three points from 22 games with a single win and 21 losses.

But interestingly enough, Rovers were the better side for more than 20 minutes of initial play as it showed signs of potentially being a dangerous side, knocking the ball around with good passes and asking a few questions of the Dream goalminder Joseph Mncube.

Things fell apart when Dream’s Mthokozisi Khumalo, whose first name means the one who makes you happy, made his side’s coaching staff and players happy when he opened the scoring with a beautifully taken shot that rattled the back of the net, leaving Rovers keeper Teboho Sebelego in sixes and sevens in his goal post.

This opened the floodgates as Dream skipper Lesedi Manyike led his side from the front when he banged in the second goal but soon after, he missed adding a second with a shot that went way over the crossbar and Khumalo too was denied his brace a few minutes later.

Lesedi Makunyane got the third goal for his side just before the referee blew his whistle for ‘oranges time’ and soon after the resumption, Moeketsi Maphela got the fourth goal for the Dream team which was followed by the fifth goal from the boot of Letsholoane Letiwana.
Rovers managed to get a consolation goal from the boot of Kabelo ‘Mario’ Mofokeng but it was too little too late as the referee blew for full-time.
