David versus Goliath cup action set to begin
The three giants of the DStv Premiership Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs receive soft draws.
Orlando Pirates begins its journey in defence of the Nedbank Cup title with an away tie to an unknown opponent under the auspices of the South African Football Association (Safa) in Mpumalanga.
According to Premier Soccer League media officer Fhatuwani Mpfuni, the man who conducted the round of 32 draws, the opponents of the Buccaneers are unknown at this stage as there are issues that need to be sorted out by the mother body, and once those are ironed out, only then will the name of the team be disclosed.
For now, Mpfuni said, the opponents of one of the big guns of the DStv Premiership will only be known as Safa Mpumalanga and would not disclose the nature of the issues. “It’s only safe to say there are issues that still need to be dealt with.”
The ‘David versus Goliath’ cup lived up to its name when DStv Premiership dominating side Mamelodi Sundowns was drawn away to Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit NB La Masia while the other giants of the league Kaizer Chiefs received a favourable home draw to Milford FC of the Motsepe Championship.
The fourth giant of the league SuperSport United was not so lucky as the draw handed it another premier league side Cape Town City while AmaZulu has a KZN derby clash with Royal AM.
