Iphutheng teacher confident of victory next year

Iphutheng Primary School teacher-cum coach Lota Kekana believes he still stands a good chance in next year's tournament of the Discovery Alex U12 Schools League.

Iphutheng Primary School teacher-cum coach of the boys’ soccer teams Lota Kekana was a disappointed man when the final whistle of the championship match for the Discovery Alex U12 School League was blown.

The soccer-loving teacher who has been at the helm of his side since the launch of the tournament in 2013, had kept his fingers tightly crossed in the hope that he would win the marathon league for a record three times to equal MC Weiler, having reached the finals on five occasions, more than any other school.

“I had thought it was all in the bag. When Dr Knak scored, I was confident my boys would reply twice to overtake them on the scoreline, but that was never to be. I can only look forward to returning stronger next year,” Kekana told Alex News.
MC Weiler first won the trophy in 2015, and again in 2017 and defended it in 2018. No other school has won the trophy three times and Iphutheng was on the road to equalling that record but was beaten by archrivals, Dr Knak.

With this win, Dr Knak has equalled the MC Weiler record of being a three-time champion of the games but Iohutheng still eyes that elusive record.
Kekana believes his chances are bright for next year’s tournament as the bulk of the current players in his squad will still be available. “I am certain that with the majority of the boys still at the school next year, I stand a good chance of lifting the trophy for a third time too,” he said.
