Alex Stadium closed for grass revamp

There will be no activities and games taking place at the Alexandra Stadium for the whole of September due to a grass revamping of the field.

The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association would like to notify members and other stakeholders about the temporary closure of the Alexandra Stadium as of September 1.

According to Alex Northrand LFA secretary general Malvin Khumalo, the closure for the whole of September is meant to allow for a breather for the facility as the LFA makes some minor revamping of the grass condition on the field. This will make it playable and ready for the hectic season of the Safa Johannesburg Men’s Regional League and the ABC Motsepe League scheduled to kick off sometime in October.

“We would like to ensure that the grass is in good condition and ready for the demanding time when our major leagues kick off. The LFA will put topsoil on areas where it’s bare and too dry for the grass to grow,” Khumalo said.

He would not comment on how much would be spent on the revamp, save to say it’s not a major project but it is to ensure the field is playable when the league season opens.
