Alex Arsenal City FC still waiting for its day with DC

Alex Arsenal City FC is still waiting to face the music as the LFA seeks help elsewhere, following a fight that broke out on the pitch between its players soon after the referee blew his whistle for halftime.

Alex Arsenal City FC is in the dog box with the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association following a fistfight between two of its players during a game and is still waiting for its day with the LFA’s Disciplinary Committee.

The fight erupted during the LFA Promotional League game against Amajananda FC at the Totalsports Alex SafeHub on April 1 which led to the abandonment of the game as the referee feared for the safety of all those at the stadium.

LFA secretary general Malvin Khumalo who confirmed that reports had been received from the referee and both teams, said Arsenal was taking full responsibility for what transpired on the pitch that day.

Khumalo told Alex News the matter had already been referred to them but there were some issues around the reconstitution of the committee which he said had been out of action for some time.

“We are urgently looking at bringing the matter to finality before it’s too late as it may negatively impact the log standings of our promotional league. The ideal situation is to ensure that the matter is resolved as soon as possible.

“I am confident in the next few days we should be able to get the committee to meet or if not, as our committee has been out of action for a long time and it is proving difficult to reconstitute it, we might have to look for help from other LFAs on this matter,” Khumalo said.

The incident occurred soon after the referee blew his whistle for half-time and the two players exchanged blows on the pitch. This prompted the referee to red-card both players.

One of them left the field, threatening that he was going to mobilise a mob which left the referee with no option but to abandon the game in fear for the safety of everyone at the match.

When the match was called off, Amajananda was leading 3–1. Amajananda has returned to the league after they were relegated from the Johannesburg Men’s Regional League in its maiden season last year.
