Alex coach makes history as he slays SuperSport United in Nedbank Cup

Dondol Stars FC co-coach Vincent ‘Young Master’ Rammoni says slaying SuperSport United in the first round of the Nedbank Cup felt like the side had just won the world cup.

Alex coach Vincent ‘Young Master’ Rammoni has made history and grabbed headlines and the limelight after he slayed the much-fancied DStv Premiership side SuperSport United to advance to the next round of the Nedbank Cup.

His ABC Motsepe League outfit Dondol Stars from Mamelodi came from a goal down to outclass seasoned premiership coach Gavin Hunt and humiliated his side by two goals to one at the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium on February 8.

Rammoni (27), who also goes by the nickname ‘Pep Guardiola’ after Manchester City tactician in the English Premier League, is the co-coach of Dondol along with Khuliso Rashamuse.

Besides coaching Malandela Might Heroes in Alexandra in the Johannesburg Regional League formerly known as the SAB League, Rammoni joined the Mamelodi side in 2021 and they currently occupy the top spot in their league, with four points ahead of their nearest rivals, Jomo Cosmos of the legendary Orlando Pirates player Jomo Sono.

The Young Master, who holds a Safa Level D Coaching Licence and other specialist coaching certificates, exchanged numerous WhatsApp messages with the Editor of Alex News Sipho Siso ahead of the game in which Rammoni quite confidently bragged about humiliating SuperSport and he did.

“I was so confident I was going to beat them. They scored first and led us at halftime, and I told my players not to be intimidated and to loosen up the handbrake and accelerate a little bit and build on that momentum in the hope to get a goal or two, which we did.

“I was so excited when we got the first goal and then the second one. It felt like a dream come true. I don’t know what distance I covered running back and forth along that touchline.

“You don’t get to lock horns with Gavin Hunt [SuperSport coach] and come out alive. To get a positive result from him shows you are not far off,” said the Young Master who described the first half of the game as ‘difficult’ as they were physically strong and more experienced.

Asked how he felt when the referee blew his final whistle, Rammoni described it ‘as more like they had won the world cup. There was so much joy and we momentarily forgot the life problems. Players ran amok all over the pitch and supporters kicked at almost anything and shook fences in excitement’.

“I don’t know how many metres I ran to celebrate the winning goal. I have never run so much. I couldn’t control myself. My WhatsApp inbox was full, the phone rang non-stop with well-wishers, radio stations, sports publications etc and I now understand why celebrities tend to lose it when there is a big moment.

“People wanted to go out and celebrate but I couldn’t and turned down the offers as I had a training session with Malandela the following morning and a game in the afternoon,” the Young Master said.
