The MiddleWeight Champions title is currently vacant, this means that both fighters are challengers to the throne which features two international boxing tournaments on the same day.

Speaking to Alex News in an interview, Section 29 said that this will be the first time that both boxers cross swords, as they only often see each other on TV for different fights.

“I have prepared myself to go all the full 12 rounds. If I am not able to knock him out in the distance, I will have to ensure I collect as many points needed as possible.

“I may be a knockout artist but a championship over 12 rounds becomes another story,” said the 31-year-old.

“I am promising the Alex community and all my fans that I will be bringing the belt here to Alexandra come Friday,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nkosinathi Kunene (21), a development boxer at the Jersey Joe Boxing Club, will be heading to Booysens to pick a fight with Daniel Adams of the Booysens Boxing Club over 4 rounds in the Bantam Weight division [53kg] showpiece on October 2 at 14:00.

“I have been training for this fight since July and I am confident of a points-win from the battle as I am not a knockout artist but anything can happen and if that opportunity comes, it will be a bonus for me,” Kunene said.

Kunene started his boxing career at the Jersey Joe Gym and Boxing Club in 2008 and hopes this fight will be his launch pad to going professional.

Democratic Republic of Congo boxer Mbiya Kanku squares up against Alexandra’s John ‘Section 29’ Bopape for the vaccant African Boxing Union (ABU) Championship title in Bloemfontein on September 30.

The Alexandra High School matriculant of the Class of 2021 said he is currently upgrading his maths marks as he wants to embark on a career in sports science to also qualify as a boxing instructor and personal trainer.
