Alex street soccer games to keep kids off the streets

The games are meant to engage the youth in sports so they do not end up in conflict with the law.

A non-profit organisation under the name of the Pule Tladi Foundation will stage a street soccer tournament on March 26 as part of its programme to keep children off the streets and out of mischief.

Known as the Ekasi Open 3-Aside Street Soccer Games in partnership with the Pule Tladi Foundation, the game will take place on 13the Avenue between Joe Nhlanhla and Hofmeyer streets. Chairperson of the foundation Pule Tladi said the other aim of the games was to raise funds to enable the NPO to carry on with its noble work of nurturing the Alexandrian child to grow up to become a well-rounded and moulded child that stays away from crime and other forms of mischief. He said the foundation currently trains children aged seven to 14 years in various sporting codes and soccer is one of them.

“We are an NPO currently not affiliated to the Local Football Association as it’s very difficult to get funds to sustain the organisation, let alone to affiliate to another organisation or association. “I have a passion for the sport, hence, I’m still involved in training and developing our children. It pains me to see the children loitering in the streets and not involved in any sporting activity at all. “For us to organise the street soccer games is part and parcel of our programme to engage the youth in sports so they do not end up in conflict with the law,” Tladi told Alex News. He said it would be great to have funds to sustain the organisation and see more children off the street.

“Anyone form of help would be appreciated for us to see our dream and vision come to fruition.” Details: Pule Tladi of the Pule Tladi Foundation 082 426 4405.
