Kings of kasi football to be crowned in Alex

ALEXANDRA – Tournaments like this help remove the youth from the ills of the kasi into a more positive space, says Morgan Gould.

The Red Bull Kasi Cup returns to crown the kings of kasi football on October 9 at Alexandra Stadium but unfortunately there will be no Alex teams represented.

Teams from Alex did not take part in the tournament and the action will see four teams from other kasi areas go head-to-head for the 2021 title. The day of the final will also a feature a legends exhibition match.

The cup shines a spotlight on up-and-coming gifted football players, validating their dreams of becoming the next big stars of South African football. It also plays a vital role in the grassroots development of football in the country, especially in areas rich in talent but lacking in opportunities, resources and facilities to cultivate the potential that exists.

The tournament has a unique format with only three matches being played – two semi-final matches and a final. The teams participating are winners of the four major kasi football tournaments in and around Gauteng – Soweto FC, Kathorus FC, Yoyo FC and Sesfikile FC.

Former Kaizer Chiefs star and international footballer Morgan Gould said, “Playing kasi football really moulds you as a person. You get to learn a sense of discipline, responsibility, timing, and urgency that you can apply not only on the soccer field but in life as well. Tournaments like this help remove the youth from the ills of the kasi into a more positive space.”
