Alexico will play its games under the Gunners Banner

ALEXANDRA – New outfit Alexico will play its games under the Gunners Banner until such time that the deal has been approved by Safa.

New outfit Alexico will play its SAB League games under the banner of Gunners for the time being.
Founding owner and chairperson of Alexico, Mxolisi Mngomezulu confirmed to Alex News that they would still play under the Gunners banner as the deal was still to be approved and registered by the South African Football Association, after which they can then use their Alexico name.

“We look forward to endear ourselves to the community of Alexandra and other supporters beyond the township that the team will play a result- oriented game in order to ensure we win games.

“You can play an exciting brand of football but if there are no positive results, you will not win games. We want to win games and ensure we climb up the ladder of promotion in amateur football,” Mngomezulu said.

Mngomezulu, an Alex born and bred coach, said his other long-standing ambition had been to provide a platform for young talented boys to showcase themselves and grow their soccer skills to catch the eye of local professional teams and those abroad.

“I think with Alexico, I will be able to envision this dream and turn it into reality and finally see these boys move from amateur football to top professional leagues internationally. That will be a dream achieved for me, to enhance, cultivate and accelerate their growth.”

On whether the team would have what it takes to make the cut in the SAB League, Mngomezulu said, “Like anything in life, I believe in a process and that requires patience coupled with emphatic leadership to realise long-term goals.

“We will strive to be competitive so we can be proud of the players and the technical personnel who will have shown interest to be associated with the team. As a registered NPC [non-profit company], I believe with the correct positioning of the brand, we should be able to attract funders and also apply for sponsorships,” added Mngomezulu who is also the technical director of Alex Northrand LFA.

Alexico has 21 registered players but only three from Gunners made the cut after a thorough assessment of their whole squad. “I think collaborations [with other clubs] will be key to help us sustain, as we acknowledge that we’re not the know it all type and will bring partner clubs to share expertise to benefit aspiring teenage players wanting to grow their careers.”
