Alex football ‘expert’ laid to rest

ALEXANDRA -– Alex football legend of yesteryear, Alfred Mathibe, better known as Bra Ngoti, has been laid to rest.

Alfred ‘Ngoti’ Mathibe, a member of the Alexandra Football Veterans Association and a serving member of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee who passed away on 5 January at the age of 78 years, has been laid to rest.

Bra Ngoti, as he was famously known in football and social circles and whose football nickname means ‘expert’ because of his exceptional passes, was buried at the Waterfall Cemetery in Midrand on 12 January. He died following a short illness.

The football ‘expert’, who was born on 17 February 1944 at number 44, 11th Avenue, played for City United in the late 1950s right up to the early ’70s – City was a breakaway from Gunners.

After retirement, Bra Ngoti was not lost to football as he freely gave of his time to assist in the beautiful game in various capacities. His last assignment until his death was as a member of the disciplinary committee of the Alex Northrand LFA.
