Alex football fans, musicians and producers asked to join Masandawana celebration

South Africans have been asked to compose and produce a Mamelodi Sundowns-themed song as part of the club's 50th-anniversary celebration.

Alex residents are invited as Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club marks its 50th anniversary in style with a theme synonymous with the club’s nickname, ‘Bafana baStyle’.

The celebrations, which kicked off early this month, are expected to run until December when the grand prize winners will be announced. The signature element of the celebration is the #SingWithSundowns competition that has invited all South Africans, music composers, producers, soccer fans and music fans, to compose or produce a Mamelodi Sundowns-themed song to stand a chance to win a slice of more than R6 million.

The club said that thousands of submissions have already been received and Mamelodi Sundowns FC together with the Mamelodi Sundowns Foundation would like to thank the many South Africans who have submitted their songs for July.

Voting lines for the month of July are now open until 29 July for the #SingWithSundowns competition. The public can vote for their favourite song in the various language categories by visiting the Mamelodi Sundowns website www.sundownsfc.com to listen to the playlist with the top seven tracks per language category.

There are two voting options, SMS and USSD. Once voters have listened to the songs, they can vote for their favourite song by SMSing Sundowns, the song language and song number to 40737 or by simply dialling *120*703# from their phone and following the prompts. Each SMS costs R1.50 and USSD is R1.50 per minute.

Voters stand a chance to win R7 000 per language category, every month. All aspiring music composers or producers who have not submitted their entries yet, need not despair as the entries for the month of August are open and they are encouraged to submit their songs before the monthly closing date.

Anyone wishing to take part is urged to visit the Mamelodi Sundowns website www.sundownsfc.com for a step-by-step guide on how to participate in the competition and be in the running for the life-changing R1-million grand prize.

Once the song has been submitted, the necessary processing and screening will take place. The shortlisted songs will be made available on the Mamelodi Sundowns website for the public to listen to and vote for their favourite songs. As part of the process to discovering the ultimate winner, each month, individuals – one in each official language – will qualify as finalists through consumer votes.

These individual composers or producers will win R30 000 in cash at the end of each month until the crowning of the ultimate winner in December.
