Thokoza’s Snack FC are champions of the inaugural Red Bull Kasi Cup and R100 000 richer

JOBURG – Thokoza's Snack FC are R100 000 richer after clinching the inaugural Red Bull Kasi Cup.


A skilled young squad from Thokoza, calling themselves Snack FC, fought hard through two prolific rounds of classic kasi soccer to triumph as Red Bull Kasi Cup champions.

This followed a 4–3 penalty shootout win against Gibos River Park FC in the match played at Dorothy Nyembe Park.

The tournament was the first edition of Red Bull Kasi Cup which is aimed at giving talented kasi footballers an opportunity to showcase their natural ability and football skills. Snack FC are a R100 000 richer after scooping the top prize of the tournament.

Other participating teams included Jan Malambo 11 representing Mamelodi and Zak Park FC from Soweto, both of whom were booted out in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Cup ambassador and professional footballer Siphiwe Tshabalala who witnessed the final said, “I am honoured to be part of an initiative contributing to the development of kasi football.

“I was impressed to see such raw talent at the tournament which reminded me of the early stages of my football career where it was just about passion and hunger to play at a higher level. All the teams demonstrated great teamwork and were determined to lift the trophy.”

Top players recognised at the tournament included Thabo Mphuti of River Park FC, who was named Player of the Tournament, while Thabang Mokoena of Snack FC was outstanding in the final game and walked away with Man of the Match. The man who saved the most goals, Nkosinathi Ntuli plays for the champions and was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

“We have been preparing for this moment. The team has worked very hard to ensure that they bring the trophy home. We are grateful to have a platform like Red Bull Kasi Cup to expose our players and allow them to showcase their skills on the field of play,” said Snack FC coach, Kaizer Kobile.
