Orlando Stadium to host 2019 #MTN8Final

JOBURG -– The MTN8 final will be held at the iconic Orlando Stadium on 5 October.

For the first time after several years, the MTN8 final makes a deserved return to football-crazy Gauteng which is better known as ‘The home of champions’.

The iconic Orlando Stadium in Orlando East, Soweto, which gave birth to the then blockbuster and original Soweto derby between the Dube Birds (Moroka Swallows) and Amabhakabhaka (Orlando Pirates) will host the 2019/20 MTN8 final.

The #MTN8Final will be played on 5 October, with kick-off scheduled for 6pm, making it the first domestic cup final to be hosted at the Orlando Stadium in five years.

Surprise package and inform Highlands Park, who are making their first-ever appearance in this competition, will play high-riding Tshwane outfit SuperSport United. Matsatsantsa A Pitori has tasted MTN8 glory before and will be appearing in this cup competition for a record-breaking third successive season.

The Owen Da Gama-led Balfour Park-based Highlands Park booked their passage after overcoming Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively, and the Lions of the North will be hoping to put one past SuperSport.

On the other hand, Matsatsantsa made their way to the final after ditching cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in a two-legged semi-final. SuperSport had gone past Bidvest Wits in the quarter-finals under the watchful eye of their astute Zimbabwean coach, Kaitano Tembo.

As much as the game on the pitch will be between Highlands Park and SuperSport United players, many believe the game will be decided in the dugout between Tembo and Da Gama and that the more tactically astute coach on the day will see his team lift the cup.

Tickets for the match are now on sale at TicketPro outlets and Sasol garages throughout the country.
