Banyana Banyana star has urged youngsters to strike the balance between books and sports

ALEXANDRA– I had a dream to play for Banyana Banyana one day and to achieve that dream.

Banyana Banyana and JVW Football Club midfielder Mmamello Makhabane have urged youngsters to strike a good balance between books and sport.

Makhabane who recently earned her 100th cap for the national team was speaking during U10 and U13 soccer clinics hosted by JVW Football Club and Bluebirds Ladies at Alexandra Stadium to sharpen the skills of young female soccer players.

“I started playing soccer at a very young age when it was not fashionable for women to participate in the sport,” she told the players. “I had a dream to play for Banyana Banyana one day, and to achieve that dream I had to work hard every day. But for you to have a better future you must apply the same strength in both your books and sport because if you only have soccer skills, life will be difficult for you.

“You must strike the balance so that if it happens that you find yourself in a situation that you cannot play anymore, maybe due to injury, you have your qualifications to carry on with your life. The sky is the limit out there, do not limit yourselves work hard and keep a good focus on your dreams.”.

Bluebirds Ladies coach Thabiso Mametja said, “Soccer clinics are very important in soccer especially at the development stage because experts give players technical skills that can be used on and outside the field of play. Opportunities like this do not only help players with soccer skills but to also learn from those who have made it in sport. We are extremely grateful for this partnership between JVW Football Club and Bluebirds and I hope it will continue.”
