Pair of budding girl footballers from Alex to represent SA in Germany bootcamp

ALEXANDRA -– The two girls that will represent South Africa in a football boot camp in Germany have been announced.


The two budding Alex girl footballers who will represent South Africa at the Allianz Explorer Camp’s football edition in Germany have been announced.

They are Alexandra High School learner Molly Mathole and her KwaBhekilanga Secondary School counterpart Amina Alaoui. The pair departs for the week-long trip to Munich on 22 August and will return home on 27 August.

Molly and Amina were part of the top six girls that were picked by ace goal poacher turned scout Portia Modise, the former Banyana Banyana leading goal scorer of all time, during a football tournament hosted by Allianz Global Corporate and Speciality Africa (AGCS) at the Number 3 Square Ground in May.

Out of 50 girls that took part in the tournament from six high schools in Alex, six of the most talented were picked, from which Amina and Molly came out tops. They will join their counterparts from 30 countries in the Munich boot camp.

Included in the itinerary of the girls’ programme will be meeting FC Bayern Munich stars who will coach them and impart some footballing tips and other life skills, including some digital activities that can help them beyond football.

AGCS Africa CEO Thusang Mahlangu congratulated the winning pair and hoped they would be the true ambassadors of South Africa.

“The two girls were determined to win the trip as they demonstrated unwavering passion for the beautiful game, their football artistry and discipline on and off the field, which makes for a good quality and all round player,” Modise said.
