Lines have been drawn in the 6th annual SCZ schools tournament

ALEXANDRA – Our country has been gripped with the violence that is happening in schools every day.

Former Orlando Pirates assistant coach and Chippa United former head coach Teboho Moloi has urged teachers and school governing bodies to encourage and revive soccer in schools.

Moloi, who is in the process to buy a stake in one of the local clubs, was addressing scores of people who attended this year’s draw event of the prestigious 6th Sbusiso Cosmos Zwane Schools Tournament that was held in Three Square Sports Complex.

He alluded to the rise of crime and substance abuse in society as a result of lack of sports in schools.

“Our country has been gripped with the violence that is happening in schools. This tells you that our children who are learners in these schools have ample time on their hands. For us to keep our learners busy and occupied, we must create tournaments like this one to keep them busy and take them out of the streets,”

Moloi praised the founder of the tournament Sbusiso Zwane for his courageous act to establish a platform that has produced a number of professional players.

“This tournament plays a pivotal role in developing and nurturing future netball and soccer stars of the country. Initiatives like this one need be supported by all of us to ensure that our kids are offered an opportunity to showcase their talent.”

Zwane urged learners to surround themselves with positively minded friends and distance themselves from alcohol and substance abuse.

He urged educators and coaches of all 16 participating schools to respect the rules of the tournament. He said the organising committee will not compromise or bend its rules during the tournament that was set to kick off on 6 August.
