“My role at Highlands has been defined mainly as player-coach in the field of play and to mentor the youngsters to ensure their careers blossom. “Yes, I will be expected to deliver the goods in terms of scoring goals so we can collectively take the team to new heights,” he said.

Speaking about his prospects to play for Bafana Bafana, Rama-G said he would continue to work hard and whether he got noticed and selected for the national team is another story. “It is every player’s wish to ultimately represent his country in his career but it’s not something I can moan about for the rest of life.”

His new striking partner, Free State-born Mvala said he welcomed the arrival of a striker of the calibre of Rama-G, whom he said would not just bang in the goals and help take the team to new levels but ‘will also help mould the careers of people like me and others in the team’.

Asked whether he viewed the arrival of Rama-G as a threat to his position, Mvala said, “Far from it. I view Rama-G as an esteemed and professional player who is bringing a wealth of expertise and experience to the team that we can all tap into as youngsters to develop our careers.

“If anything, I view him as being more of a role model and field coach who will guide me and others as we play and tap into his enormous wealth of experience. We all have a duty to deliver the goods for the club and our supporters.”
