Alexandra rugby giants, Alex Wolves senior team recently suffered an embarrassing loss at home against their league rivals Ennerdale Rugby Club.

Wolves who were lying sixth on the Senior Grand Challenge league table before their match against the visitors on 13 July, were defeated 17–0 in front of their supporters who had come out in their numbers.

The defeat means that Wolves have failed to secure a place in the semi-finals of the league.

Speaking to Alex News after the match, Wolves team manager Elias Mpengu said all credit should go to Ennerdale.

“Our opponents prepared themselves for this match and they were well organised. They gave us no chance, not even to cross the centre line. Lack of discipline of some of our players and lack of commitment led us to this loss. I hope our boys learned a good lesson from this game,” Mpengu said.

He added that he was encouraged by the performance of Wolves’ U21 and U19 teams who won their matches earlier in the day securing themselves places in the semi-finals of this year’s Senior Grand Challenge.
