Norwood’s watering hole comes alive with Banyana match

NORWOOD -– Banyana Banyana crash out of the Fifa Women's World Cup in France in the group stages.

 


Banyana Banyana may be out of contention in the Fifa Women’s World Cup in France following a dismal performance in the group stages

but memories of their first qualification and participation in this prestigious tournament will linger longer in their minds.

So will many South Africans have fond memories after watching live viewings of Banyana’s games in numerous watering holes around Jozi. One such viewing was at N’dawo Yummy, a rooftop bar @The Factory On Grant on Norwood’s famous Grant Avenue, hosted by former Banyana legends.

Although the match against China was a damp squib, the crowds that attended were kept on their feet each time the girls had the ball and plotted their moves that never went far. Talented winger and ace goal poacher Thembi Kgatlana gave the viewers a glimpse of hope when she made a foray into China’s penalty box but good defending stopped her in her tracks.

Although Banyana lost the match by a solitary goal, many cheerful ‘Norwoodians’ braved the chilly evening to give support to the women of the beautiful game.
