A warm send-off for 30 Alex runners who will be participating in the Comrade Marathon this year

ALEXANDRA – More than 30 members of Run Alex will participate in this year's countries biggest annual marathon on 9 June this year.


The chief operating officer of Boxing South Africa (BSA) Sindi Nkomo has urged members of Run Alex Runners Club who will be participating in this year’s Comrades Marathon for the first time to stick their training plan.

Nkomo who has participated in the marathon three times before addressed scores of local athletes who attended a Run Alex members send-off event recently at De Grandiose Restaurant and Bar in Marlboro.

Thousands of local and international runners will take part in this year’s 87 kilometre Comrade Marathon on 9 June from Durban City Hall to Pietermaritzburg.

More than 30 members of Run Alex will participate in this year’s countries biggest annual marathon on 9 June this year. Eight members of the club who will participate in the race for the first time were advised to stick on their plan.

“This year’s marathon will be one of the difficult and toughest one. It is an ‘up run’ starting at the City Hall in Durban and finishing at the Scottsville race course in Pietermaritzburg. The race distance is approximately 87km. You must always stick to the plan and never allow yourself to be isolated from your team,” Nkomo said.

First time participants who will be carrying the flag of Alexandra – Nelisiwe Mojela, Keneilwe Midisapudi, Sbongile Mvenyeza, Nomusa Shelembe, Tony Motala, Sphiwe Mahlalela, Godright Selena and Joel Mogano – said they were all ready to hit the road and bring medals home.
