Alexandra’s Top Dogz swallow poisoned bate in the ANLFA Promotional League

ALEXANDRA – Black Poison continues to cruise in the ANLFA Promotional League as games get fewer and fewer.

Black Poison showed the kind of poisonous stuff they are made of when they collected maximum points after forcing Top Dogz, as Gomtown Boyz are known, to swallow laced humble pie in 4–1 drubbing.

This was orchestrated at the Altrek Sports Complex in a Promotional League match of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, which will see the eventual winners of this league promoted to the SAB League of the South African Football Association.

With only five games to go in this 14-team league, the pressure is building up among the chasing pack and Black Poison showed their determination to maintain their status at the summit to which they ascended to two weeks ago.

The league’s leading contender for the Golden Boot Award, Poison’s Nkosingiphile Nzimande dished out the first poisoned bait for Top Dogz when he opened the scoring in the third minute of the game to register his 25th goal of the season.

Teammate Julius ‘Kamo’ Ledwaba tried to hand out the second poisoned bait but his header went inches wide of the upright of an advancing keeper. Another attempt which had goal written all over it came from Thapelo Ramalia but the alert Top Dogz keeper Petlo Mokwena parried the danger over the crossbar for a corner kick.

The determination of Black Poison to get as many early goals as possible in the first half to blunt the teeth of Top Dogz was evident as they mounted raid after raid with Ramalia having a second attempt but his header too went wide of the upright.

Ledwaba finally dished out more poison when he thundered a shot in the 18th minute that left Mokwena at sixes and sevens. Nzimande was denied his second in the dying minutes of the first half by a diving Mokwena.

In the second half, Nhlakanipho Mazibuko of Black Poison came close to adding a third goal had it not been for Mokwena who parried his attempt over the crossbar.

Top Dogz were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Chris Malatji made no mistake to pull one back for his team. But that joy was short-lived when Black Poison skipper Sifundo Mthembu wrote his name on the scoresheet.

Ronaldo Magwedzha hammered the final nail in the coffin of Top Dogz when he scored a last gasp fourth for Black Poison just before the referee blew his whistle for the 90.

Black Poison coach Wiseman Nkabini said he expected his team to win promotion to the SAB League in his first season as coach. “I will be happy to take the team to another level,” he added.

Top Dogz coach Mush Raletjena said he hoped his side would move a few rungs up the log ladder in the few remaining games. “We hope for a decent finish to season as opposed to the current status where we lie second from the bottom,” he added.
