Alex runners encourage community members to participate in weekly exercises

ALEX – Run Alex has urged community members, young and old to join the runners club.

In December, the coordinators of Run Alex Runners Club urged all their members to eat healthily and remain fit during the festive season.

Run Alex is a runners club that was formed in January last year by members of the community who run 10 to 35 kilometres every Saturday and Sunday from 6am. The club comprises men and women of different ages. There are about 35 regular runners who gather on weekends at the Altrec Sports Ground to run in a non-competitive race.

Speaking at the club’s year-end function held at Dandy’s Lifestyle Corner in Marlboro, club coordinator Sphiwe Nkosi urged runners to refrain from eating junk food and to take care of their bodies during the festive season.

Rachel Ledwaba who is 72 years old, joined the club in March last year and runs 10 kilometres every week.

She said said joining the club had helped her keep her body fit. “Running every week helps me live healthily,” added Ledwaba. “I take no medication or suffer from any diseases like some of people of my age.

“I urge all community members, especially the youngsters to join us.”

According to Nkosi the club will start the 2019 calendar in the second week of January and no formalities or fees have to be paid to join the club.
