Run Alex brings a successful 2018 to a close in fit spirit

ALEXANDRA – Run Alex has urged community members, young and old to join the running club next year.

The coordinators of Run Alex Runners Club have urged all of their members to eat healthy and remain in fit spirit during this festive season.

Run Alex is a runners club that was formed in January this year by members of the community who run 10km to 35km every Saturday and Sunday from 6am. The club comprises of men and women of different ages and there are about 35 regular runners who gather every weekend at the Altrec Sports Ground to run in non-competitive races.

Speaking at the year-end function held in Dandy’s Lifestyle Corner in Marlboro, club coordinator Sphiwe Nkosi urged runners to refrain from eating junk food and to take care of their bodies during this year’s festive season.

The 72-year-old Rachel Ledwaba, who joined the club in March and runs 10km every week, said joining the club has helped her keep her body fit and free from diseases caused by ageing.

“Running every week helps live healthy. I take no medication or suffer from any diseases like some people of my age. I urge all community members, especially the youngsters to join us,” said Ledwaba.

According to Nkosi, the club will start the 2019 calendar in the second week of January and no formalities or fees have to be paid to join the club.
