Westbury’s La Masia outguns the Alexandra Gunners in the SAB League

ALEXANDRA -– La Masia proved to be too good for Gunners when the Westbury side beat Alexandra Gunners 4-0 in the SAB League.

A hat-trick from the boot of menacing La Masia striker Jason Arends and a bonus goal from Themba John was enough to see the visiting Westbury side collect maximum points in their 4–0 SAB League win against Gunners at the Alexandra Stadium.

La Masia outgunned the Gunners in their own backyard with two goals in each half. The Westbury side showed they meant business when they put pressure on the home side right from the start. And this paid off when Arends dribbled past a few Gunners defenders to unleash a powerful shot that put his side ahead in little less than five minutes of the start.

Gunners tried to reply to the onslaught and out-of-form Matome Masasanya had a chance to level the score but his attempt at goal was the tamest of all strikes.

Brandon Chiloane of Gunners was pulled off for an injury and was replaced by the lively Thokozani ‘Majaqamba’ Nyathi, who added the much-needed firepower and impetus up front with his deft touches.

However, Nyathi and his striking partner Masasanya failed to complement each other, resulting in few scoring opportunities being created.

Gunners’ Kelvin Ndlovu had his chance to level matters just before halftime but his header went wide off the posts.

Immediately after Ndlovu’s attempt, John received yet another champaign pass and made no mistake to send his team to the break 2–0 up.

In the second half, La Masia started where they left off, causing havoc with raids into the Gunners box. Arends bagged two more for his hat-trick to complete the 4–0 rout.
