The qualifiers begin in earnest next year and the AmaWheelaBoys are hard at work in their preparations for the Angola tournament which will be a six-nation tournament including the hosts, SA, Switzerland and others which are yet to be announced.

Assistant coach Anele Kledi, speaking in an interview soon after one of their preparatory matches against SuperSport All Stars at the Mandeville Indoor Sports Centre, said the team’s preparations for both the Angola tournament from 28 November to 3 December and the African qualifiers for the 2020 Paralympics were on track and that he was confident of bringing home the trophy from Angola.

“We’re aiming for gold but we if we cannot get that, then we shall settle for silver and nothing less,” he said.

“I am confident because of what I have seen in training sessions and practice matches. I believe the boys are ready and resemble a well-oiled ‘wheela’ machine ready for any opposition on their road to the paralympics.”

Their readiness was clearly shown during the match against SuperSport in which the Amawheelaboys triumphed 77–40.

“We still have a number of matches lined up as part of our preparations including camps and I want to believe we will be able to bring excitement back home when we return from Angola.”
