VIDEO: AmaWheelaBoys’ passion for basketball
JOBURG -– AmaWheelaBoys tell their inspirational sports stories in the hope to get more players.
Sasol, in conjunction with Wheelchair Basketball SA, has set out to inspire the country by telling the stories of those involved in the sport of wheelchair basketball, through the #Limitless initiative.
All this will happen ahead of the AmaWheelaBoys’ participation in the 2019 IWBF Africa Paralympic qualifiers. The #Limitless will shine the spotlight on the drive, skill and determination of the passionate players who selflessly give of themselves to benefit the sport.

These individual players will demonstrate how involvement in sport can teach confidence, dedication, determination, and teamwork to inspire all South Africans.
Wheelchair Basketball South Africa (WBSA) CEO Charles Saunders said, “Our team is full of some of the most inspirational people I know.
“We now have the opportunity to inspire the South African public through their stories in an effort to attract more players to the sport, and can only thank our partners Sasol on this wonderful initiative.”

Sasol group brand marketing manager Nozipho Mbatha said throughout the partnership with WBSA, the chemicals giant had been amazed and inspired by the individual players within the set-up.

“Through shining a light on these remarkable individuals, we hope that this initiative can both build the support base for the Sasol AmaWheelaBoys and showcase the #Limitless potential of our national team,” she said at the launch of the initiative.
In addition to stories of the team and players, South Africans will be given a taste of the team’s #Limitless abilities through the ongoing Green versus Gold series – a part of WBSA’s programme to prepare the team for the 2019 IWBF Africa Paralympic Qualifiers.
AmaWheelaBoys captain Cecil Dumond said the Green versus Gold series was not only great preparation for the team’s upcoming endeavours but the games offered opportunities for the South African public to come and experience wheelchair basketball.
“We urge as many people as possible to attend and support the team and we look forward to seeing you there,” said Dumond, who is the husband of team coach Lydia Dumond.

#Limitless is designed to use wheelchair basketball and those involved in the sport as a positive catalyst in changing perceptions and behaviours for positive outcomes.
Dumond, the long-serving AmaWheelaboys skipper, was the first in line to tell his inspirational story.
