A raffle with a World Cup soul

JOHANNESBURG – The raffle is a fundraiser organised and managed by Soul Workout.

The Grand Sports Raffle is offering two tickets to Russia for the Fifa World Cup to watch two rounds of 16 games and a further one week stay at one of the prestigious accommodation spots in Moscow.

This spectacular raffle is a fundraiser organised and managed by Soul Workout, which is registered and monitored by the Lotteries Board of South Africa.

Last year, the raffle assisted a number of schools, in particular, the Tshireletso School in Soweto that was facing serious a sanitation problem.
Principal Ghardy Mokgethi said their school had been in a dire situation, but through the assistance of Soul Workout, the conditions have since improved. “We had broken systems with numerous problems including our toilets, pipes, water systems, sewerage and blockages.

“Soul Workout through, the Grand Sports Raffle, enabled us to have a functional and operational sanitary system at Tshireletso. Thank you for the amazing, kind and generous contribution to our school.”

Last year, the Grand Sports Ruffle saw Solomon Gordon and his partner win the first prize of a trip to visit Chelsea FC in London, and they even had the opportunity to watch their live top Premier League game against Arsenal. “When I heard I had won I was incredulous. The trip was one of the most exciting things that have happened to me,” said Gordon.

Lewis Weinstein, who had also won the raffle, got the chance to attend the quarterfinals of the Australian Tennis Open in Melbourne with his partner.

This year the beneficiaries are CHOC, FeedSA, Chayainu and Afrika Tikkun, and when buying a ticket, the purchaser gets to choose which organisation they would like to support.

Ilan Herrmann, organiser at Grand Sports Raffle said it is being rolled out at some schools and on various other platforms. He said one of these is the exciting Corporate World Cup Friday where corporate staff get a chance to win tickets in the weeks leading up to the Grand Sports Raffle draw on 13 May.

“It’s a fantastic initiative that is helping such important organisations and the dynamism of the world cup is a thrill for everyone. We thank Kia, which is an official Fifa World Cup sponsor, for their support of the Grand Sports Raffle initiative,” said Herrmann.

Schools are also getting on board in the build-up to world cup fever while paying it forward. Herrmann cited King David Sandton, KEPS and Yeshiva College as some institutions that are working with Soul Workout to drive an exciting school competition.

Ticket entries are only R200 and they are available online on www.grandsportsraffle.com; and for schools, corporates or businesses they can call Soul Workout on 011 440 1178.
