Amajita coach Thabo Senong is a lifelong student of the beautiful game

JOBURG – SA U20 coach Thabo Senong has been invited to participate in the Master Coaching Course at the Johan Cruyff Institute in Netherlands.

 

Amajita coach Thabo Senong has gone back to the classroom to obtain a Master Coaching Diploma in the Netherlands.

He has enrolled at the Johan Cruyff Institute in the Netherlands and has already completed the first block of his training schedule while the second and third block will be done later in June this year.

“I strongly believe that if one wants to be a successful coach, in the pedigree of the Pep Guardiola’s of this world, one has to be a lifelong student of the beautiful game,” he said.

“Pep Guardiola is so successful not just from sheer luck. He’s successful because he never leaves the classroom. He has become a lifelong student of the game and in that way, one will be truly a great coach afterwards.

“You need to constantly return and sit behind the desk to update your skills and knowledge of the modern game. Without constantly touching base with the classroom and learning the new tricks of the trade, you can never be as successful as you want to be in this ever-changing game.”

He was speaking to the Tribune at the launch of the Kia Champ into the Arena at the Discovery Soccer Park in Illovo.

Senong, along with Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs and his teammate Bongani Khumalo are the ambassadors of this 5-a-side football tournament. The winning team will book a flight to the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia in June, where they will also participate in another global 5-a-side tournament.

The South African leg of the tournament has 160 teams already registered from three provinces and the Gauteng regional finals were won by Forza FC.

Forza FC will battle it out in the national finals taking place at the same venue on 21 April.
