Gunners outgun BP in the Promotional League game

ALEXANDRA - Domineering Black Poison fail to use that to their advantage in a Promotional League game of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association.

Black Poison players have nobody but themselves to blame for throwing away vital points against the Gunners in a match they dominated from start to finish.

They were outgunned 3–1 in the Promotional League of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association match played at the Alexandra Stadium. The promoted team at the end of the season will play in the Safa Promotional League which is a stepping stone to the SAB League.

BP, as they are popularly known, dominated the game from the first whistle to the last, with their neat passes and interchanges but were let down by poor finishing up front.

This was echoed by their coach Eric Ndaba soon after the final whistle, who said it was a pity they could not convert their high work rate, neat inter-passes and domination of the game into goals.

“Goals are what win us matches,” he said.

“You can be stylish on the pitch and do everything right but if you do not rattle the net more frequently than your opponent then you’re doomed.”

Ndaba added that the loss was water under the bridge and he would be going back to the drawing board to plan ahead. “One of the things high on the list will be ensuring that we convert our high work rate and dominance into goals.”

His Gunners counterpart, Stanley Makhubela, though delighted to have bagged the three points, said he realised they would not win the match if they tried to match their opposition man-for-man.

“They seemed to have a free man in the middle of the park as we lost shape and at halftime, my priority was to ensure they kept their shape and closed them down in the middle of the park where their play seemed to revolve around,” he said.

“This worked for us and we caught them on numerous occasions in transition balls from which our goals all came from.”

The two teams went into the halftime break with the Gunners leading 1–0 from a goal that was scrambled into the net by Thokozani Nyathi. The second came through the boot of Kamva Tinga 20 minutes after the resumption while the final nail in the coffin of BP was from the boot of Mavhungu Matamela.

BP managed to pull one back though they finished the game with one man down after Sanele Sibiya was sent for an early shower for rough play.
