Birds bemoan failure to notify clubs on league start

ALEXANDRA - The Beautiful Birds of Alex have started with their preparations for the 2018 season of the Sasol Women's League.

Bluebirds have accused the South African Football Association (Safa) of lacking fair play by failing to timeously inform the clubs in the Sasol Women’s League about the start of the season.

“This wreaks havoc on our preparations for the start of the season as we do not know when the league is going to start so we can condition our players without burning them out,” said the Birds mentor Malvin Khumalo in an interview with Alex News on their state of readiness for the new season.

“I have no idea as to when the league will start. We have not been informed but under normal circumstances, we would have been briefed already and our preparations would be in full steam with a start date in mind.

“It’s essential for the clubs to be notified on time about the start of the season so they do not overdo training exercises as this may lead to a burnout on the part of the players even before the season starts.”

Khumalo added that too much of anything was not good at all and “so is less of it as it will mean we’re underprepared”. “We need to be informed so we can schedule just the right amount of training and friendlies that will not lead to early burnout of the players.”

Banyana baMalvin (Malvin’s Girls), as the Beautiful Birds have come to be known in Alexandra, has started with full stream training. “We decided as coaches to go full steam, as we did not want to be caught napping with the announcement of a date.”
