The street aerobics programme that took Alex by storm last year is back for the second edition.
The first session which took place on 20 January saw many people attending, eager to burn up some calories and keep fit after the festive season.
The programme is a joint initiative between the City of Johannesburg’s sports and recreation department and local fitness agency Body Boost Groom Fitness Agency.
Dipuo Chauke of the City said, “Last year was fantastic, the people loved this programme. That is why we are excited to be bringing back it back to the people.”
She added that she was happy with the number of people who attended the first session of the year. “The turnout today has proven that 2018 looks promising. I hope the numbers grow with each session.”

What made the programme popular among residents, she said, was the fact that participants were not expected to pay anything to take part.
“[Also] one does not need to be experienced in aerobics to join, everyone is here to learn. It is a fun way of keeping fit while engaging with fellow community members. The music plays a huge role in inspiring participants.”
