Alex football and its administrators recognised

ALEXANDRA – Chairperson of the ANLFA Maisha Molepo is elected first deputy president of Safa Joburg Region which is now headed by Sowetan Phil Mogodi.

Alexandra continues to churn out football administrators and the latest is Maisha Molepo who has been appointed first deputy president of the South African Football Association (Safa) Joburg Region.

Molepo was elected at an extraordinary elective congress on 13 December at Safa House. Sowetan Phil Mogodi, former president of the Soweto Football Association, was elected president while Thelma Molise of the Orange Farm Local Football Association was voted in as second deputy president.

Another member added to the executive was Calor Edwards of the Southerns Local Football Association. She becomes an additional member of the executive which is in line with Safa requirements that women be appointed to administrative positions.

Former president of Safa Joburg Region Anthony Reeves, under whose tenure the region is said to have lost its effective operational ability, was ousted from the executive.

Jimmy Bakos, former deputy president under Reeves’ tenure, is said to have withdrawn his nomination from the floor, opening the way for the election of Molepo, who is the current president of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association.

Announcing the appointment of Molepo, Alex football secretary-general Mafika Morajane congratulated the newly elected executive of the region and wished them all the best in their new roles, particularly “our very own chairperson”.

Asked whether this meant that Molepo would relinquish his chairpersonship of the Alex Northrand association, Morajane said he would serve on both structures. He would have been required to vacate his chairpersonship had he been elected president but as deputy, he’s allowed to hold both positions, Morajane added.

He said the elevation of Molepo would be greatly beneficial not just for Alex football but the entire Johannesburg region as he had valuable knowledge and administrative skills needed in taking regional football activities to another level.

“For us in Alex, it would make our football lives even more easier as we shall no longer have to trek all the way to the regional office to convey our wishes and requests but will simply tell our own person and he will deliver on the mandate.”
