Two more aerobics sessions for Alex

ALEXANDRA – Residents took part in an extreme aerobics session at Alex Plaza.

The seventh edition of the street aerobics took place at the Alex Plaza on Saturday and as usual, people came out in numbers to keep fit.

This is an ongoing initiative by the City of Johannesburg, partnering with Body Boost Fitness Agency, to encourage social cohesion among residents of the township and keeping fit at the same time.

Sports and recreation manager at the City, Mandla Mahlangu, said residents’ reception of this project has been overwhelming.

“Ever since we started this project in May, it has been the best of times. The people love it and they have shown interest in it,” Mahlangu said.

Initially, sessions were supposed to be held once a month, but Mahlangu said that the demand from the public prompted them to hold sessions fortnightly.

Phenyo Mahlatji, who has been attending the sessions from the beginning, said it has been good.

“Ever since I started, my energy levels have improved and I am more flexible now,” Mahlatji said as she enjoyed the first two sessions and even recommended that her friends join in on the fun.

“After I invited my friends to join, they seemed to have enjoyed it so much that they also invited other people.”

She encouraged young people to start being part of such events because they did not cost a lot of money and they help improve one’s health.

There are two more sessions before the City wraps up the year.

The next session will be held on 25 November at KwaBhekilanga Sports Grounds at 6.30am
